Refugia “Cuca” Ybarra Uriegas, age 83 of Uvalde, Texas passed away peacefully into the arms of our heavenly Father, Sunday, March 29, 2020 at her home in Uvalde, Texas, after courageously living the last 2 years with pancreatic cancer. Refugia “Cuca” Ybarra Uriegas was born in Uvalde, Texas on May 26, 1936 to Arturo Ybarra and Francisca Gonzales Ybarra. She is preceded in death by both parents; Arturo Ybarra and Francisca Gonzales Ybarra, sisters; Candelaria De La Paz, Olga Sanchez, Anita Avalos, brothers; Conrad Ybarra, Guadalupe Ybarra. Refugia “Cuca” Ybarra Uriegas grew up after graduating Uvalde High School. She married the love of her life, Roberto Z. Uriegas and they had three daughters. They were married 20 years and “Cuca” never remarried. Refugia “Cuca” Ybarra Uriegas was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Vela Perpetua, Cursillista and she had a deep devotion to her blessed mother whom she found so much comfort to the end. Refugia “Cuca” Ybarra Uriegas retired from UCISD after 25 years as a teacher aide. She will be remembered for her love of nature and fresh flowers, her wit, her generosity and her ever-present smile. Refugia “Cuca” Ybarra Uriegas will missed most by her daughters; Diana Uriegas Flores (Rudy Flores Jr.), Angelica (Ronald Garza) Uriegas Garza, last but not least, her caregiver, her confidant, her special friend, her daughter, Sylvia Uriegas, sisters; Carmen (Rodolfo) Uriegas, Rosalinda (Joe) Ybarra, brother, Arturo (Cindy) Ybarra, all of Uvalde, Texas. Cuca “Wita” they called her as she deeply loved her 5 grandchildren, Rodolfo R. Flores III, Monica Flores, Veronica Uriegas, Clarissa (Brian) Neutze and Ana Lisa Trevino, all of Uvalde, Texas. Wita immensely loved her 8 great-grandchildren, Joseph Christian Martinez, Stephen Michael Garcia, Aubrey McDonald, Monika Elaine Garcia, Cal Thomas and Briley Neutze, Mackenzie McDonald, Briley Cambra Neutze, Kory Guidry all of Uvalde, Texas. Honorary pallbearers; Rudy Flores Jr., Rudy Flores III, Art Ybarra, Roland Sanchez, Rick Morales, Joseph Christian Martinez, Stephen Michael Garcia, all of Uvalde, Texas. A special thank you to Doctors; Issac Sosa, Drengler and Rasco and staff, The Start Center, Hospice team and our earth angel, Nurse, Louise who led Refugia “Cuca” Ybarra Uriegas to the warm light. Cremation under the direction of Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home Services are entrusted to Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home, 424 Geraldine Street, Uvalde, Texas.
