Claude Wallace "Wally" Jones' Obituary
Claude Wallace “Wally” Jones, age 80 of Ft. Clark Springs Association, Texas passed away Tuesday, June 9,2020 in San Antonio, Texas. Wally was born in Round Pond, Arkansas on June 25, 1939.
He graduated from Forrest City High School, entered into
the US Air Force , received his college degree, traveled around the world, retiring as a Senior Master Sargent, after 21 years of service.
Among his many military decorations the most honored was the Meritorious Service Medal.
His post military employment was with Bank of America, formerly SunWest Bank , in Albuquerque, NM as a
Senior VicePresident. He was instrumental in funding the Veterans War Memorial in Albuquerque, NM. His memberships were in DAV, VFW, American Legion, NCOA, and BPOE.
His enjoyed RVing , serving as President of the Holiday Rambler Chapter 81 of Albuquerque and helping with many of the International Rally’s. After settling at Ft Clark Springs Assoc., he learned to play golf where he served as President of the Men’s Golf Club and for years ran the Las Moras Golf Tournament enjoying every minute. He married Lesley Lawrence in Bryan, OH on Oct 18, 1959, at First Lutheran Church. He is survived by Lesley, his wife of 60 years, of Ft. Clark Springs Association,daughter Penny L. Jones, Bosque, NM ,son Michael L. Jones, Wappingers Falls, NY, grandson Shawn M.Jones, and wife, Colleen, great-grandchildren, Jack, Ivan,Leon and Grace, of Wichita, KS.
Wally was preceded in death by parents, Eugene Daniel Jones and Essie Anna Lorene Miller Jones, brother, Roy Mitchell Jones, K.I.A. Vietnam, sisters, Eula Mae Bourne, Edna Jean Lucas, Eva Christine Jones and grandson, Jason Christopher Butner.
From the cotton fields of Arkansas to the golf courses in Texas; he enjoyed a full, happy, successful life and will be greatly missed.
Cremation under the direction of Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at a later date; in lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity.
