Emil Edmond Schafer, age 97, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026. He was born on July 21, 1928, in Brackettville, Texas, to Emil Milton Schafer and Sims Alice Theresa Schafer.
Emil lived a life defined by hard work, service, and devotion to family. He was a certified peace officer, a skilled mechanic, and a large equipment contractor. Through these professions, he earned the respect of many and took great pride in his work.
One of Emil’s greatest joys was spending time fishing with his brother, Richard Schafer, a pastime that brought him peace and lasting memories.
Emil was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years, Beverly Jane Hunt Schafer; his son, Steven Lynn Schafer; and his parents.
He is survived by his stepson, Ernest Wayne Judge of San Antonio; his daughter, Lisa Ann Conoly, and her husband, Stan, of Brackettville; three grandchildren, Jacquelyn Ann Conoly Burton and her husband, Loden, of Bee Cave, Texas, Stanford Christian Conoly, and Zuehl Schafer Conoly; and two great-grandchildren, Atticus Armstrong Burton and Adelaide Theone Burton, his brother Richard Walter Schafer, nephews Rick Schafer and wife Dana, Les Schafer and niece Cheri Schafer all of Brackettville. A graveside service will be held at Kinney County Cemetery on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
