Jose Esteban Mata's Obituary
Esteban Mata, 81 of La Pryor died Saturday 30, 2023 at Uvalde Memorial Hospital in Uvalde.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, October 3, 2023 from 12:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home where a Rosary will begin at 7:00 P.M. A Mass set for Wednesday October 4, 2023 at 12:00 P.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Interment will follow at La Pryor Cemetery.
He was born on May 6, 1942 in La Pryor to Andrea Najera and Guadalupe Camacho Mata.
Mr. Mata retired after many years with the Zavala sheriff’s office as a deputy. He spent many years serving St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in La Pryor as a Knight of Columbus #13675, Guadalupano, Cursillista, leader of the Divine Mercy group and attending ACTS retreat. Esteban was a God fearing man who loved his family often being the one who always motivated and cheered them up. Margarita his daughter said, “We walked into dads house crying, sad and walked out with a smile and laughing.” Loving his family was always first on his list and there was never a need too small or too big for them.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years; Maria L. Mata of La Pryor, two sons; Esteban Mata Jr. of La Pryor, Ricardo Mata of Uvalde, six daughters; San Juana Rosas and husband; Juan Miguel, Diana Gutierrez and husband; Juan, Veronica Mata and companion; David, Perla Mata all of La Pryor, Margarita Mata of San Antonio, Rosalinda Simon and husband; Kenneth of Del Rio, one brother; Leopoldo Mata of La Pryor, one sister; Yolanda Rodriguez of Batesville. 12 grandchildren. 21 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ricardo Mata of Uvalde, Esteban Mata Jr., Jose Angel Mata, Sergio Daniel Gutierrez, Omar Efrain Gutierrez all of La Pryor, Diego Mata Simon of San Antonio.
He is preceded in death by both parents; Andrea Najera Mata and Guadalupe Camacho Mata, two brothers; Dolores Mata, Fernando Mata, two sisters; Maria Martinez, Nelia Vega, one daughter; Diana Mata, two grandsons; Jose Guadalupe Mata Rosas, Carlos Daniel Mata.
