Leo Canales Martinez, age 74, of Uvalde, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025. He was born on July 6, 1950, in Uvalde to the late Leo Brown Martinez and Amparo Canales.
A dedicated public servant, Leo spent many years in law enforcement, where he proudly served his community with integrity and strength. His passion for motorcycles and cowboying reflected his independent spirit and love for the open road. He enjoyed western movies, the great outdoors, and lived a life guided by strong values and a deep Catholic faith.
Leo is survived by his brother, Charles Martinez of Uvalde; his sister, Linda Dryer and husband Jim of San Antonio; and his beloved niece, Romona Gutierrez of San Antonio. He is also survived by his great-nieces Priscilla Soto, Makayla Soto, and Jessica Reyna, all of Uvalde, and great-nephews Jesus Cardenas and Nathan Reyna, also of Uvalde.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Helen L. Martinez.
Leo will be remembered for his quiet strength, his devotion to family, and the enduring legacy of service and resilience he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
