Maria T. Huerta Cantu
Mary Cantu was a daughter of God, her well beloved creator. She was the eldest of a family of five-siblings, sister to Albert Huerta Sr. wife Irma, Braulio Valentin Huerta and wife Cecilia, Lela (Lydia) Perez and her husband Luis, Freddie (Alfred) Huerta and Vicki Benavides. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Valentin and Ofelia Huerta. Mary was also preceded by her dear husband Enrique Cantu Sr.(Henry), married for 56 years. Together they had three sons- Enrique Cantu Jr, Valentin Cantu and (Lupe) Guadalupe Cantu and had a baby girl Maricela Cantu who lived only for one day on September 3, 1969. From their sons the Cantu couple had three grandsons and one step-granddaughter Felice Pope along with her brother Forrest Pope. Mary and Henry together had several brothers and sisters, Tia’s and Tio’s and also grandparents who were a part of their familia and family of friends that were a joyous part of their lives. They were a hybrid of Faiths including Baha’is, Catholics, Jehovah Witnesses who believed in one loving creator.
A Visitation will be held Friday, January 16, 2026 from 12:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home at the Chapel of Serenity, a prayer service will take place at 6:00 P.M. A graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 10:00 a.m.
Family will be having a celebration of life right after at Uvalde Party Room 1104 W Main St, Uvalde, TX 78801.
