Olga C. Briones' Obituary
Olga C. Briones, age 78, of Del Rio, Texas passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018, peacefully in San Antonio, Texas. Mrs. Briones was born in Eagle Pass, Texas to Mr. & Mrs. Enrique Cortinas Sr. and raised in Del Rio, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents; Enrique & Julia Cortinas Sr., and brother; Enrique Cortinas Jr.
Olga was known by many for her amazing work with crafts and a prominent downtown business owner. Her origins began simple enough, as seamstress at the Hicks Ponder pant factory in Del Rio. Her dedication and work ethic helped her achieve a supervisor role for her department which lasted until the plant was ultimately closed in 80’s. Her first business venture was as co-owner of B & M fashion in downtown Del Rio which lasted over 5 years. Mrs. Briones always had a great talent for handmade crafts and in 1998 Olga & Alonzo embarked in Olgas Gifts & Crafts Boutique on Del Rio’s historic Main Street. Alongside her husband and family, she worked tirelessly often times traveling to different areas of the country to bring back the latest arts & crafts trends. Olga & Alonzo established themselves as pillars of the downtown business community and in 2016 with 18 years of business history they made their decision to close their doors but Olga was still sight by the community to create crafts. Olga’s greatest joy in life was her family. The mother of 6 she loved a packed house and cooking her famous tamales she made with her sister Romelia and beloved family. She will truly be remembered for her sense of humor, loving the cowboys football team and always smiling.
Mrs. Briones will be missed most by her loving husband of 61 years; Alonzo Briones Sr, sons; Alonzo (Martha Guerra) Briones Jr., Baldemar (Blanca) Briones Sr., David (Jason Rodriguez) Briones, Eddie (Jackie) Briones, daughters; Velma (Albert) Contreras, Jo Ann (Lisa) Briones, sister; Romelia Morales, grandsons; LeRoy (Nelly) Briones Sr., Baldemar S.
