Vicente Gaitan's Obituary
Vicente Gaitan, 96, of Uvalde, Texas, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
He was born on October 27, 1929, in Asherton, Texas, to Crecencio Gaitan and Margarita Vela.
Vicente was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. A hardworking farmer for many years, he dedicated his life to providing for his family through his strong work ethic and unwavering faith. He was a faithful member of the Catholic Church.
In his younger years, Vicente enjoyed horseback riding and spending time outdoors. He treasured every moment with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He and his beloved wife, Irma, enjoyed dancing together, creating memories that lasted a lifetime. Known for his wonderful sense of humor, Vicente was always ready with a joke to bring a smile to those around him. He loved playing baseball with his children, listening to "La Ranchita" on the radio, and visiting with his brothers and sisters. His greatest joy was being surrounded by the people he loved.
Vicente was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Irma Castillo Gaitan; his parents, Crecencio Gaitan and Margarita Vela; his sons, Antonio Gaitan and Alfredo Gaitan; his sister, Beatrice Perez, and her husband, Onesimo Perez; his son-in-law, Raul Soliz; and his grandchildren, Hope Rios, Rigoberto Rios, and Jon Jovi Rodriguez.
He is survived by his loving children: John Gaitan and wife Maria of La Pryor, Texas; Maria Soliz of Uvalde, Texas; Guadalupe Gaitan of La Pryor, Texas; Margie Alcozer and husband Bobby of Castroville, Texas; Martha Rodriguez and husband Jesse of Uvalde, Texas; Pablo Gaitan and wife Rosemary of Uvalde, Texas; Roberto Gaitan and wife Diana of Knippa, Texas; David Gaitan of Uvalde, Texas; and Raquel Zamora and husband Jesse of Uvalde, Texas. He is also survived by his brother, Plutarco Gaitan of Edinburg, Tx; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will cherish his memory.
A Visitation will be held Friday, July 24, 2026 from 12:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home, Chapel of Serenity, a Rosary will take place at 7:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial is set for 12:00 P.M, Saturday, July 25, 2026 at St. Joseph Catholic Church., San Jose St. La Pryor, Tx 78872.
Interment to follow at La Pryor Cemetery.
Vicente will be remembered for his kind heart, his love of family, his dedication to hard work, and the laughter he brought to those around him. His legacy of faith, love, and devotion will live on through the generations of his family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
