prayers going out to the Van Meter family and boxing community! I first met john 10 years ago and wow what an amazing young man he was with a heart of gold. He was always fueled with his passion, looking to take his family with him in his successes. He was special. We are very blessed to have had the honor to spend special moments with him. God bless John.
My deepest condolences to the Van Meter family and to all those who were able to share in John’s light. I only had the pleasure of meeting him twice, both times while practicing his boxing craft at Tree City Boxing. He was such a joy. He not only practiced his boxing, but his character. He was polite, funny, charismatic and thoughtful...he didn’t think twice about his Father, Big John, and Trainer, David Hernández, being upset that he took the time to bring me a bottle of water in a hot gym.
May he spread his angel wings over the boxing gym and protect those who come after him. John, I know the Hernandez´s loved you. They loved you for your heart, your gift of gab, for loving them and for sharing in such a wonderful part of your life.
