John Duane VanMeter's Obituary
John Duane Van Meter, age 24, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019, in Uvalde, Texas. Mr. Van Meter was born in Fountain Valley, California to John Van Meter and Rebecca Cardona Van Meter. He is preceded in death by his daughter; Emmalyn Jade Van Meter, grandmother; Lynn Marie Sunday and great-grandpa; Diego Gloria Cardona.
John’s greatest joy in life was boxing. Starting at the age of 10, John brought home 2 Gold Medals in the Texas Olympics and turned pro later in his career. He loved being around boxing often time stopping his training to help a fellow young boxer. John always lit every room with his smile and loved to be around his family.
Mr. Van Meter will be missed most by his son; John Jayce Van Meter, daughter; Amra Renee Van Meter, parents; John & Rebecca Van Meter, brothers; Joseph Anthony Van Meter, Jaydyn Diego Van Meter, sister; Destiny Elizabeth Van Meter all of Uvalde, Texas, Van Meter family, the Boxing and Uvalde communities.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers: Crispin Reyna III, David Morin, Rudy Kovac, David Rodriguez, Joseph Van Meter, Jayden Van Meter, and Paul Gonzales all of Uvalde, Texas.
A Visitation will be held Sunday, January 27, 2019 from 12:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home, Chapel of Serenity, 424 Geraldine Street, Uvalde, Texas.
A Prayer Service will be held Sunday, January 27, 2019 7:00 P.M. at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home, Chapel of Serenity, 424 Geraldine Street, Uvalde, Texas.
A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 28, 2019 at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home, Chapel of Serenity, 424 Geraldine Street, Uvalde, Texas.
Services will conclude with cremation at a later date.
