Sylvia Flores' Obituary
Sylvia Flores, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on November 13, 2025. She was born on May 7, 1961, in Big Wells, Texas, to Guadalupe D. Flores and Epifania Sanchez.
A proud veteran, Sylvia enlisted in the United States Air Force on June 10, 1980, in San Antonio, Texas. She served with honor and dedication, achieving the rank of Technical Sergeant (TSgt) before her discharge on March 31, 1988, in Fort Worth, Texas. Following her military service, Sylvia continued a life of service to her community, working as a Fort Worth Police dispatcher for 26 years.
In 2015, Sylvia made Uvalde her home, quickly becoming part of the community she came to love. She was a very social and warm-hearted person who treasured family above all else. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren, and she embraced every moment shared with them. Sylvia was also a loyal friend—someone who could always be counted on for support, laughter, and kindness.
A dedicated member of the American Legion Post 479, Sylvia found fulfillment in camaraderie, service, and helping others. Her presence there and in the community will be deeply missed.
Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Erika Gonzales; her granddaughter, Destiny Flores; and her grandson, Josiah Flores, all of Uvalde. She is also survived by her brothers Jesus Flores of Wheeling, Illinois; Adam Flores of Big Wells; and Luis Javier Flores of Big Wells; as well as her sisters Sally Flores of Big Wells, Rosa Flores of Big Wells, and Maria Lane of Saginaw.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Guadalupe and Epifania, and her brothers Francisco Flores and Jose Guadalupe Flores.
Sylvia was a devoted Catholic, and her faith remained an important part of her life.
Her strength, generosity, and love will be remembered always by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Cremation is under the direction of Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home.
